When the summer began, Jordan Fields didn’t have a passport. Until last week the rising senior at Creekside High did not need one.
That changed when she was named to the U.S. track and field World Youth Championships team.
Before she could represent her country in Cali, Colombia, the 16-year-old from Northwest St. Johns County needed a passport.
“This is a dream,” Fields said during a respite from her training in Lisle, Illinois. “I’ve been dreaming about this since I was in ninth grade. All this hard work, waking up at the crack of dawn and working out with my dad, all the hard work goes to God, my family and my dad.”
The first of seven events, the 100 meter hurdles, begin today at the Estadio Olimpico Pascual Guerero. Fields will be one of 41 athletes from 25 different countries going for gold.
